A manhole explosion knocked power out to several hundred customers in upper Manhattan Thursday morning, officials said.
The explosion erupted around 5:50 a.m. near 655 W. 190th Street, where firefighters worked to get it under control until 6:54 a.m., officials said.
The power outages stretched about a quarter of a mile, cops said.
There were no injuries due to the blast, authorities said.
“It’s a drain on the system,” an FDNY official at the scene told WPIX. “Everyone was utilizing their AC units last night and perhaps prior to our arrival, they were all connected to … make this circumstance.”
Five apartment buildings were affected, he said.
Con Edison and Office of Emergency Management officials are on the scene.
