A manhole exploded in Manhattan on Wednesday morning — halting traffic while officials investigated, authorities said.
The explosion happened about 10:15 a.m. at West 35th Street and Eighth Avenue, officials said.
The manhole started smoking before it exploded, authorities said.
“An electrical burnout caused by wires led to a manhole explosion,” said a worker for Con Edison at the scene.
There were no reported injuries.
By 11:30 a.m., authorities were still on the scene and the street was taped off.
