A Manhattan man claims his credit is ruined because a student-loan company refuses to believe he was the victim of a scam.
Ajay Javeri discovered last year that the company, Navient, formerly known as Sallie Mae, was holding him responsible for $90,000 loaned to a co-worker’s daughter for school, he says in a lawsuit.
But Javeri says he had refused when the colleague asked him to co-sign for the loans in 2008. Javeri, who is seeking $1.8 million in his Manhattan Supreme Court suit, says Navient destroyed his credit rating.
Navient did not respond to messages seeking comment.
