A straphanger was slashed in the face in an unprovoked attack on a Q train in Times Square, police said.

The victim, 34, was hospitalized after being cut on the chin in the Saturday morning attack, which unfolded just before 10 a.m. when a man seated nearby began mumbling to himself, cops said.

Without warning, the mumbling man spit on the victim, hit him and cut him with some sort of object, police said. The suspect fled out of the train at the 42nd Street station.

The victim, who was not identified, was taken out of the train station on a stretcher. The incident alarmed nearby tourists in the famed Manhattan spot, which has seen a spate of violence in recent months, including several shootings.

Warehouse worker Hampton Jones was nearby when the slashing happened, celebrating his 2-year-old son Alexander’s birthday with the pair’s first ever trip to the Big Apple.

“It’s crazy. This is my first time – my first day in the city,” he told The Post, looking shaken. “I’m scared. It could have been me. I heard about the violence in New York. This is beyond madness.

Doris Ishikawa, 39, a teacher visiting from California, said she was shocked when she learned about the incident.

“They are out of control,” Ishikawa said about people like the slasher. “They are not human beings. Why? Why? Why hurt innocent people. That’s not fair. Stop it!”
