ITHACA — A man had to beat a deer to death with a shovel after the startled animal jumped through a window into his workshop and then attacked him.

Tom Hartshorne was taking his dog for a walk Wednesday morning when a buck just outside his front door took off and jumped through his window, he told the Ithaca Journal.

He attempted to herd it toward the open door with a shovel. But after the deer lunged at him multiple times, he killed it with a blow to the head, Hartshorne said.
