Mayor Bloomberg and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn said yesterday they’ll join a lawsuit challenging the federal Defense of Marriage Act.

They said they’d file a friend-of-the-court brief for a woman suing the feds for the return of $363,000 in taxes she had to pay on the estate of her partner. Surviving spouses in heterosexual marriages don’t have to pay the tax.
