A massive fire ripped through a residential building in Queens on Tuesday, officials said.
Residents of the building, at 84-70 129th Street in Kew Gardens, had to be helped down a fire escape to safety, including an amputee who was rescued by neighbors.
“When I walked into his apartment, the fire was in the kitchen,” said Pablo Herran. “Within minutes, it was chaos. I grabbed him, took him into the hallway, and other neighbors brought him down the fire escape.”
More than 150 firefighters, including these aiding an elderly resident, battled the flames for more than two hours before it was under control at 9:15 p.m.
More than 10 people, including eight firefighters, were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
