NYPD cops responding to a harassment call at a Brooklyn deli heard gunshots ring out and thought they were being fired upon — sparking a massive police response early Thursday, authorities said.
Officers from the 75th Precinct responded to a 911 call just before 2 a.m. about a man threatening an employee inside the Christiano Market Deli, saying that “I’m gonna’ shoot this place up,” police said.
The cops were inside the Fulton Street bodega in Cypress Hills when they heard up to two shots and feared it was for them, setting off the substantial NYPD response that included tactical units, a police helicopter and the department’s ESU team.
Police determined that the shots were not meant for the officers and found that the rear driver’s side window of a nearby unoccupied black SUV was struck by the gunfire.
Authorities later found a man they believed was threatening the bodega employee and arrested him, cops said. Charges were pending.
The suspect may also be responsible for firing the shots, according to police.
No gun was recovered.
