Mayor Adams’ police detail helped apprehend someone trying to steal from a Wall Street department store on Saturday, sources told The Post.
Cops on the mayor’s detail spotted a security guard at TJ Maxx trying to apprehend multiple kids who attempted to rip off the store shortly before noon and jumped out of their vehicle to help, sources said.
They were able to grab one of the kids, but the others fled and got away.
The nabbed 15-year-old was busted with $480 worth of stolen clothing, including socks and underwear, sources said.
It is unclear if Mayor Adams was with them at the time. DANIEL WILLIAM MCKNIGHTThe incident happened a mere three days after Adams unveiled a long-awaited city retail theft strategy plan aimed at curbing rampant shoplifting in the Big Apple. The 33-page “Combating Retail Theft” report released Wednesday includes calling for the NYPD to keep a list of the city’s most persistent thieves.
It is unclear whether Adams was with his security at the time of Saturday’s pilfering. The Mayor’s Office didn’t return messages.
The mayor was in Lower Manhattan to deliver remarks at a Department of Citywide Administrative Services-sponsored “Hiring Hall” event on Chambers Street.
