Howard Wolfson, who helped craft and drive the message in Mayor Bloomberg’s re-election campaign, is joining his City Hall team in a senior advisory role as the administration begins a third term in a brutal economic climate, sources told The Post.

Wolfson will be counselor to the mayor — with a sweeping portfolio, involving crafting policy, shaping the agenda and advancing Team Bloomberg’s message, the sources said.

“He’ll have a seat at the table shaping policy, and he’ll be at the forefront” in selling it, said one source.

Bringing Wolfson into City Hall signals that the administration plans to work hard at shaping the mayor’s legacy in his final term and after a close race.

Prior to working on the Bloomberg race, Wolfson was a senior strategist on Hillary Rodham Clinton’s presidential run.
