Mayor Bloomberg says that any trips he’s taken to his home in Bermuda or elsewhere in the world since taking office don’t count as vacations.

Bloomberg said Monday that even when he gets away for a day or two, the phone never stops ringing.

Bloomberg was asked about a bill proposed by City Councilman Peter Vallone. It would require the mayor to tell the city clerk when he travels more than 250 miles out of town for more than a day, or whenever he leaves the continental U.S.

The billionaire with eight homes says public servants are entitled to privacy, and with technology he can do his job from anywhere.

He has long refused to say where he goes in his off time.
