Mayor OKs ‘Bell’ street
Mayor Bloomberg yesterday approved renaming a Queens street for Sean Bell, who was killed in 2006 by undercover cops who said he tried to run them down outside a nightclub.
“I think the mayor signing this bill just shows the city is acknowledging what happened to Sean,” said Nicole Paultre Bell, who was supposed to marry Bell the day of the shooting.
“This is about a life that was taken innocently and before his time on our wedding day.”
The detectives’ union objected to Bell being honored. The designation was one of 70 street name changes forwarded as a package to the mayor by the City Council.
