Sen. John McCain dissed Long Island in a Senate speech yesterday, saying, “Last I checked, Long Island was part — albeit sometimes regrettably — part of the United States.”

The speech mentioned terror suspects caught on the Island.

Sen. Charles Schumer tweeted a demand for an apology.

McCain responded, “I apologize . . . and I hope that . . . some day he will have a sense of humor.’’
