A pro-health care rally turned into an excoriation of Rep. Michael McMahon (D-S.I.), the only member of the city’s Congressional delegation who voted against the sweeping bill last month.

Chris Shelton, vice president of the Communication Workers of America, District One, likened the congressman to Biblical traitor Judas.

“We’re here today to thank the 12 people in the Congressional delegation in New York City who had the guts to stand up and do the right thing for the people, and the one from Staten Island, that Judas in Staten Island, who decided that the people didnt matter, that he was going to do what he was going to do,” Shelton said.

He later said it is unlikely McMahon could do anything to win back his support.

Congressman Charles Rangel (D-Manhattan), downplayed the analogy by reminding the attendees that Judas eventually was forgiven, but Rangel sidestepped specific questions about McMahon.
