Medicaid suit vs. NY
The Manhattan US attorney filed a lawsuit against the city yesterday, claiming the Big Apple improperly overcharged for Medicaid services.
The city allegedly overcharged Medicaid for 24-hour personal-care services, including cleaning, shopping and basic aid to certain beneficiaries.
According to the complaint, New York did not require professionals to reauthorize the eligibility of Medicaid recipients receiving personal-care services between the years 2000 and 2010.
In some cases, city administrators overruled the findings of the local medical director when it was determined that personal care was no longer needed.
The US Attorney’s Office estimates that 17,500 people received personal-care services in the city in that time.
