Medics get tixed off
Volunteer ambulance medics are getting hit with $50 tickets for running lights on their way to emergencies, thanks to the red-light camera program that snaps license plates and sends tickets in the mail.
The volunteer vehicles shouldn’t have to pay the fines, said Forest Hills medic Alan Wolfe, under a state law that says first responders are exempt from some traffic laws.
Owen Stone, spokesman for the Department of Finance, said the city has an agency that handles fines for emergency vehicles, and volunteers are included in it.
