Brooklyn DA Ken Thompson has ordered an re-examination of 71 cases worked by former NYPD detective Louis Scarcella. Thompson said earlier this year that prosecutors so far stand by 18 of those cases. Meanwhile, seven people imprisoned by Scarcella have seen their convictions thrown out.

The three half-brothers were convicted of murders in Crown Heights. The witness in both cases was the same drug addict whose credibility was questioned. Hill was released from prison in May 2014. The three won a $17 million settlement from the city.

Rosean Hargrave

Years in prison: 23

Convicted in 1991 of murdering an off-duty correction officer, he was released this month. A judge said Scarcella “engaged in false and misleading practices” to finger Hargrave. Scarcella says he did “nothing” on the case.

Years in prison: 20

An eyewitness named Hamilton as the man who shot her boyfriend, but Hamilton claimed Scarcella intimidated the witness. His conviction was thrown out in January.

Roger Logan

Years in prison: 17

Accused of a homicide in Bedford-Stuyvesant. But the sole eyewitness, produced by Scarcella, was in police custody most of the day of the murder. Logan was released in June 2014.

David Ranta

Scarcella was accused of framing Ranta, by coaching witnesses, in the 1990 murder of a Brooklyn rabbi. Ranta, released in March 2013, received a $6.4 million settlement from the city.
