A bus line offering megacheap fares from New York to Boston, Washington and other cities has big safety problems, government figures reveal.

Dangerous and drowsy drivers are a big woe for Megabus, which serves 15 cities from New York for fares often below $10.

Megabus Northeast’s 231 drivers are more likely to be driving unsafely than 54 percent of their counterparts at other bus and truck companies, the worst ranking of any intercity bus company that employs 30 or more drivers and regularly serves New York, according to the US Department of Transportation.

They’re also more likely to be driving tired than 58 percent of their counterparts at other bus and truck companies — worse even than drivers for World Wide Tours, the company involved in a fatal March accident in The Bronx that killed 15 people, the data show.

In both categories, Megabus drivers got worse safety scores than its main Chinatown competitor, Fung Wah Bus.
