WHITE PLAINS — Metro-North says it has some new weapons against winter.

The commuter railroad says the new equipment includes Rolls Royce jet engines.

The turbine engines produce exhaust at 600 degrees. They don’t just melt snow. They vaporize it.

The equipment also includes five cold-air snow blowers — up from three last year — and 150 new heaters.

The Journal News says the New Haven Line has been especially vulnerable. It says new trains on that line are built to better weather snow and ice storms.
