Customs agents discovered several Mexican cakes filled with cocaine at JFK Airport last week.
The five cakes made of seed, a traditional Mexican dessert, each had a secret compartment which was packed with a bundle of the white powder. The cakes contained a total of two pounds of cocaine, which has a street value of about $33,000.
Agents arrested Mexican citizen Martinez Ramirez, who has just flown in from Mexico City.
“This latest seizure demonstrates the vigilance of our (customs) officers, and their excellence in detecting those who would try to smuggle these illegal substances,” said Robert E. Perez, Director of New York field operations.
