HAMMONTON, N.J. — Two small planes performing aerobatic maneuvers over a southern New Jersey airport collided in midair yesterday, killing one of the pilot.
Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Arlene Salac said the two general-aviation planes collided over Hammonton Municipal Airport shortly after 1 p.m.
The aircraft were in space designated for aerobatic maneuvers.
Salac said one pilot was killed and the other was able to safely eject from his plane. It wasn’t immediately known if the second pilot sustained injuries.
Their names were not immediately revealed.
There were no passengers aboard either plane.
FAA investigators and Hammonton police were at the scene.
It was not immediately determined what caused the crash.
