An alleged Crips gangbanger was shot dead near a hip Midtown nightclub early Sunday as hundreds of people poured out after a performance by rap star Gunna, law-enforcement sources said.
The Atlanta hip-hopper — who played Madison Square Garden hours earlier — had just performed at Harbor NYC Club on West 46th Street at the West Side Highway in Manhattan when the deadly bullets rang out up the block at closing time around 4 a.m., police and sources said.
A 39-year-old man was killed in a shooting in Midtown on Sunday morning. Kyle Mazza/ShutterstockThe male victim, 39, who was not identified pending family notification, was hit in the back and groin and stumbled down the block to outside the club, sources said. He was rushed to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he died from his wounds.
Cops are still searching for the gunman.
“I was over there working on [an oil-spill] site [across the road], and I just see people running. I go behind and just see a guy laying on the floor,” said a waste-collection worker, Amir, explaining he ran to the scene to record the mayhem after hearing two gunshots.
Shots were fired near Harbor NYC Club on West 46th Street in Manhattan, police said. Kyle Mazza/ShutterstockJose, a construction worker also working on the block at the time, said, “There were hundreds of people on the street, all getting into cars.
“It’s loud. I heard shots, but I didn’t see anything. Shots, then people running. I saw him on the ground, then police and the ambulance came.”
Police are hunting for the killer after the fatal shooting. Kyle Mazza/ShutterstockA rep for Gunna, whose real name is Sergio Kitchens, did not immediately respond to a Post request for comment.
The rapper was accused in court last year of being a member of the Crips in a gun case. His lawyer denied the claim.
The deadly shooting comes just weeks after rapper Meek Mill was detained as he left the club, which opened in 2021 and has also hosted performances by artists including 50 Cent.
A bouncer felt what he believed was a gun on Mill, and cops were tipped off and pulled over the Philly hip-hop artist as he left the joint. No gun was found after a search of Mill’s car.
The victim was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he died from his wounds. LoudLabsNYCA clubgoer, Tim, said he hadn’t seen trouble at the Hell’s Kitchen venue before.
“I feel like it’s a good spot, it’s just you get caught at the wrong spot, wrong time, you feel me?” he said outside the club.
After the shooting, NYPD cops were seen examining the crime scene — searching for evidence with flashlights — and setting up police tape outside on the street.
The shooting broke out just as the venue emptied around 4 a.m. LoudLabsNYC“It shouldn’t be happening. It’s unnecessary,” said a man named Eli, who was leaving the rooftop venue at the time of the shooting.
“Why are people getting shot at nighttime, around the holidays, Thanksgiving’s around the corner, Christmas is around the corner,’’ he said.
“It’s a time to be joyful and be thankful for one another, and people wanna shoot one another. For what? What’s your purpose here?”
