Mayor Bloomberg is backing a Democrat for a vacant state Assembly seat in the Upper East Side district where he lives.

Aides to the mayor, a Democrat-turned-Republican-turned-independent, said yesterday he’s supporting Dan Quart over Republican Paul Niehaus.

The special election will be held Sept. 13 to replace departing Jonathan Bing.

Manhattan GOP leader Dan Isaacs said he was “extremely disappointed.”
