Mike: I fear for the city
There will be no retreat from the NYPD’s efforts to keep the city safe from terrorists as long as he’s in office, but there are “no guarantees” after that, Mayor Bloomberg said yesterday on his weekly radio show.
“It is worrisome,” he said in answering a caller’s question. “. . . [T]he voters . . . have to pick a mayor who is going to continue those policies and hire a police commissioner and support a police commissioner who has the ability, the stomach, to do it in spite of criticism all the time . . . There are no guarantees.”
All five major Democratic mayoral contenders have criticized Commissioner Ray Kelly’s stewardship of the NYPD.
