Mayor Bloomberg finally named a new Charter Revision Commission yesterday to examine which issues — possibly including term limits and nonpartisan elections — to place before the voters in a November referendum.

The 15-member panel has representatives from each borough, and is chaired by City University Chancellor Matthew Goldstein.

“He’s a credible guy,” said government watchdog Gene Russianoff. “He’s not Peter Powers or Randy Mastro,” a reference to former Mayor Rudy Giuliani stacking the deck with his deputies on previous commissions.

Bloomberg made a commitment that the commission would examine changes to term limits after businessman Ron Lauder agreed not to oppose an extension from two to three terms last year so that the mayor could run again.

One source said Lauder was offered a spot on the commission but decided he couldn’t devote the time.
