Reports by Comptroller John Liu claiming the city’s pension system doesn’t need a major overhaul are little more than “campaign speeches” that “have to be separated from reality,” Mayor Bloomberg said yesterday.

Liu’s most recent study said the city’s pension costs would spike in 2016 and then flatten out for years to come.

“Let’s assume he was right and it didn’t keep growing. It would still be a disaster,” the mayor said. pointing to the $8.4 billion pension tab next year.

Deputy Comptroller Alan van Capelle responded that “this out-of-touch mayor” probably didn’t even read Liu’s report.
