‘Minority’ builder $lap
One of the world’s largest construction companies will shell out $19.6 million to settle charges it used a front company to meet minority-hiring requirements on city transit projects, authorities said yesterday.
Without admitting criminal wrongdoing, Swedish-based Skanska conceded it “did not follow best practices” in hiring Environmental Energy Associates as a subcontractor on work for the MTA.
The settlement will be split between the MTA and the US Department of Transportation, which helped fund the projects.
