Drivers just can’t get over it.

The state has installed a garbled new sign on the Staten Island Expressway — pointing motorists to the “Geothals Bridge.”

Borough residents ripped state transportation officials for the error, which is located next to the New Jersey-bound lanes about a quarter-mile before the Richmond Avenue exit, the Staten Island Advance said.

“Great job guys,” one Facebook post read — with replies including gripes about misallocation of taxpayer funds and the state Department of Transportation’s “one job” to get its highway signage right, the paper said.

The bridge that connects Staten Island and Elizabeth, NJ, is named for the late General George Washington Goethals, a New Yorker known for his role in the construction of the Panama Canal.

A state DOT spokesman told The Post the signs were installed by an outside contractor, and will be replaced “at the contractor’s expense.”

“We are aware of the misspelling of the signs and are taking immediate steps to address the issue with the contractor who was responsible for fabrication and installation,” said rep Joe Morrisey.
