Mitt Romney edged ahead of President Obama yesterday in a new Rasmussen poll.

The surge represents Romney’s biggest lead over Obama this year.

The GOP front-runner garnered 48 percent of national voter support in the hypothetical 2012 matchup, with Obama at 43 percent.

Another Rasmussen poll, released Friday, showed Obama with modest leads over Romney and Rick Santorum in key swing states such as Florida, North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia.
