Mitt fan’s libel suit
Billionaire casino magnate and big Mitt Romney moneyman Sheldon Adelson filed a $60 million libel suit yesterday over allegations that he “personally approved of and profited from prostitution” in his Macau gambling dens.
Adelson says his “reputation as a person and businessman has been permanently damaged” by the National Jewish Democratic Council, which made the charge in support of a since-pulled online petition calling for GOP presidential candidate Romney to “Reject Adelson’s Dirty Money.”
The Manhattan federal court suit says the “false and defamatory accusations, made with actual malice, crossed the threshold from constitutionally protected speech to defamation of a public figure designed to suppress speech.”
