Mob butcher’s cheesy claim
He says the phone calls weren’t about the Mafia — but about the mozzarella.
Michael “Mike the Butcher” Virtuoso — whose Rolodex of wiseguys was seized by the feds — was making calls “to order mozzarella for Graham Avenue Meat & Deli” in Williamsburg, unrelated to loan-sharking, defense attorney Joseph DiBenedetto argued in a bail request to Brooklyn federal Judge Sandra Townes.
The feds have mistaken legitimate business activities for shakedown evidence, his lawyer claimed.
The judge asked for more documents before she rules.
