A Molotov cocktail was hurled through the window of an empty NYPD vehicle in Clinton Hill on Saturday morning, punctuating a night of violent George Floyd protests in Brooklyn, police sources said.

The makeshift explosive was thrown from a moving car around 1:20 a.m. and struck a police car parked outside of the 88th Precinct.

The car quickly fled the scene. But a car matching its description was stopped within a half-hour later near the Brooklyn Museum, the sources said.

The damaged police car was one of at least two Police Department vehicles vandalized during unruly demonstrations that began outside of Barclays Center Friday evening.

Thousands gathered outside of the basketball arena for what began as peaceful protests.

Crowds chanted “I can’t breathe” and “no justice, no peace” over the death of Floyd, the black man who died in police custody in Minneapolis after a police officer was filmed kneeling on his kneck.

But the crowds splintered off and descended into chaos after night fell. As objects were thrown toward police, officers deployed mace and used batons to beat protesters.

A police van was set ablaze at 9:30 Friday night at Fort Greene Park.

Two black state lawmakers said they were pepper-sprayed while trying to preside over peaceful demonstrations, Assemblywoman Diana Richardson and Sen. Zellnor Myrie, both Democrats from Brooklyn.

Small street fires were sparked and one NYPD van was burned in a roaring blaze. There were close to 200 arrests as of early Saturday morning, police sources said.

The investigation into the Molotov cocktail continues and no arrests have been made.
