A pregnant 20-year-old Long Island woman has been charged with manslaughter in the death of her 2-year-old daughter.

Nassau County police said Monday that Shawnta Montgomery of Roosevelt was arrested after an autopsy revealed that her daughter, Dishawna, died Friday from a lacerated liver.

Montgomery was held Monday on charges of two counts of first-degree manslaughter. It was not immediately clear who her lawyer would be. The charges each carry a potential penalty of up to 25 years in prison.

Detective Lt. John Azzata said Montgomery is 7months pregnant. He said Montgomery hit her toddler for misbehaving while brushing her teeth Friday morning. Montgomery was arrested Sunday.
