Police believe a 28-year-old man fatally strangled his mother in her Queens home, sources told The Post.

Officers found Saroj Sharma, 65, unconscious in the home on Winchester Boulevard near 90th Avenue in Queens Village Saturday at around 8:40 a.m., authorities said.

Cops arrested the son at the scene, the sources said.

An NYPD spokesman would not elaborate on the ongoing investigation.

Neighbors were stunned by the tragedy that unfolded just before Mother’s Day, and several said the suspect may have struggled with mental illness.

“He wouldn’t hurt a fly if he’s on his meds,” one block resident said.

Mike Sweeney, a retired state police officer who has lived two doors down from the victim for 38 years described Sharma as having a “quiet family.”

He said he didn’t know the suspect well, but “knew he had some issues.”

“I feel bad, we were talking to the mom last week — they’re renovating the house,” added neighbor Ray Obra, who said he didn’t hear any commotion or notice anything strange in last few days.

Obra’s wife said Sharma was an avid gardener, and recently gave neighbors roses, because she feared the flowers would be ruined by the planned renovations.

“I just feel very sad. It’s unbelievable,” she said.
