Funeral procession for Evelyn RodriguezVictor AlcornA Long Island mother who became a national voice against gang violence following her daughter’s murder at the hands of MS-13 thugs was remembered Friday at her own funeral as a “hero” and “warrior.”
Speaker after speaker stood in a Brentwood church to pay tribute to Evelyn Rodriguez, who was fatally mowed down by a driver Sept. 14 while visiting her daughter’s memorial site. The devoted mother was killed two years to the day after her 16-year-old child Kayla Cuevas was found slaughtered.
“I’ve never known anyone with more dedication and guts than Evelyn or anyone who was less concerned about herself,” Long Island Rep. Peter King told mourners inside St. Anne’s Church.
Rodriguez gained national attention when she attended President Trump’s State of the Union after becoming a vocal advocate for crime prevention following her daughter’s senseless killing.
Authorities say Rodriguez was killed by an irate driver following a dispute. No arrests have been made.
