Katherine Aliferis, a lifelong art lover who also pursued a career as a legal secretary, died Tuesday after a brief illness just shy of her 93rd birthday.
She was the mother of New York Post graphic artist Ana Gioia and three other children, Antony, Tassos and Christopher.
Aliferis was born on Nov. 12, 1922, in Youngstown, Ohio, to Greek immigrant parents, and graduated from Straubenmuller Textile HS in New York City.
During World War II, she worked for Fada Radio Corp. in Long Island City, Queens, and in 1947 she landed a job with a law firm.
In the early 1950s, she attended the Art Students League, where she met her future husband, fashion illustrator Louis Gioia.
