Karina Vetrano’s mother wept in a Queens courtroom Tuesday as a judge read out the crimes her daughter’s accused killer is charged with to a newly selected jury.
Vetrano, 30, was sexually abused and murdered while she was jogging in Howard Beach in August 2016.
Dad Philip Vetrano discovered his daughter’s body in the weeds, her shorts pulled down, when she failed to return home.
Chanel Lewis, 22, was arrested six months later. He told detectives he happened to cross paths with Vetrano on a path inside Spring Creek Park while walking from his Brooklyn home to get something to eat in Howard Beach, sources told The Post at the time.
Vetrano’s mom, Cathy, sobbed as Queens Supreme Court Judge Michael Aloise read the indictment against Lewis to the eight women and four men selected for the jury.
Cathy’s other daughter, sitting with her, sneered at Lewis, who glanced back into the gallery as the charges against him were read.
