The grieving mom of the Long Island toddler abducted and killed by his father in an apparent murder-suicide lashed out at state police for refusing to issue an Amber Alert during the search for the tragic tot, a report said.

“How many children need to be lost before a law is changed or criteria is changed?” heartbroken Maria Busone said, according to News12 – Long Island. “I’m now without my son for the rest of my life.”

John Ligurgo III torched his Coram, Long Island, home, and fled with the child, Jovani, Tuesday afternoon amid a bitter custody battle with Busone.

Suffolk County police quickly alerted Nassau County cops and the NYPD, who in turn notified New Jersey, Pennsylvania and national authorities when Ligurgo’s Jeep was spotted going over the George Washington Bridge.

But, despite a request from Suffolk cops, New York State Police never issued an Amber Alert.

“Because [Suffolk County police’s] investigation had determined that the father and child had left New York state, we did not issue an Amber Alert,” a spokesperson for the agency told News 12.

A nationwide search for the father and son ended in horror Wednesday morning when they were found dead inside Ligurgo’s flaming Jeep Grand Cherokee in rural Virginia, authorities said.

Both bodies had bullet wounds, authorities told News 12.

“Now what do I have to show for all the good I did?” Busone asked News 12. “The rest of my life is in grief.”
