Montefiore Medical Center in The Bronx is acquiring two financially strapped Westchester hospitals.

Montefiore is buying Sound Shore Medical Center in New Rochelle and its sister facility, Mount Vernon Hospital.

It will provide funding while Sound Shore Health System files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The acquisition must be approved by a bankruptcy court and the state Health Department.
