More than 2,300 doctors-in-training who work for NYC’s hospital system will be getting a 16.2% pay hike, Mayor Eric Adams announced Saturday.

The raise package for interns and residents working for NYC Health + Hospitals runs retroactively from mid-December 2021 through mid-June 2027. It also increases residents’ starting salaries from $66,247 to $81,238 starting December 2025 and provides them addition lump sum bonuses of up to $6,000.

The workers – all members of the Committee of Interns and Residents-Service Employees International Union – had been working without a contract for more than two years.

“Our hospital workers were on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic, risking their lives to save ours,” Adams said in a statement. “The least they deserve is a fair wage for their work.”
