The special City Council race in the 44th District to fill Simcha Felder’s seat is held today, with results in tonight. The mayor had strongly gotten behind candidate David Greenfield against Joe Lazar, the other top-tier hopeful in the multi-candidate race.

The mayor has not had a strong track record of late of his prospects winning, and he put a lot of skin in the game for Greenfield. If Greenfield loses it would be in a community where the mayor had to battle for votes — Orthodox Jews — in his own mayoral run last year.

Officials in Albany are focusing on the budget, a day after the Senate passed the bulk of the governor’s proposals.
