The mortality rate of New Yorkers dropped to an all-time low in 2009, the city Department of Health announced yesterday.

The death rate dropped to 6.3 fatalities per 1,000 people, compared to 6.5 deaths in 2008, the stats showed.

It’s the lowest rate since the city began keeping the records in 1898.
