TRENTON, N.J. — New Jersey commuters returned to the rails Tuesday as NJ Transit resumed most train service that was suspended because of Hurricane Irene.
Trains remained suspended between Trenton and New Brunswick because of flooding. Flooding also halted bus and rail service at the Route 23 Transit Center in Wayne.
The Delaware River is back within its banks. However, most rivers in the state are above flood stage and slowly receding.
Utilities are reporting 342,521 homes and businesses are still without electricity.
Authorities say at least six deaths in New Jersey may be linked to Irene.
