A former New Jersey woman and her son were indicted this week in the 25-year-old murders of her husband and daughter, authorities said Thursday.
Dolores Morgan, now of Delray Beach, Florida, enlisted her son, Ted Connors, and his best friend Jose Carrero in the murder-for-hire plot by promising them a cut of her husband’s life insurance policy, Monmouth County prosecutors allege.
Morgan, 66, and Connors, 47, were indicted Wednesday on seven counts, including murder and conspiracy for the 1994 stabbing of Ana Mejia and the shooting of Nicholas Connors in 1995.
The indictment came after Carrero, 48, last week pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree conspiracy to commit murder.
He told a judge that Morgan recruited him and her son to commit the slayings.
Meija, 24, was found stabbed to death and partially naked Dec. 8, 1994, in the apartment she shared with her husband and her two young children.
A white substance, first thought to be cocaine and later found to be baby formula, was rubbed on her face.
Carrero said while entering his guilty plea on Friday that Morgan offered him and her son between $2,000 and $3,000 to murder Meija, the Asbury Park Press reported.
Morgan allegedly wanted her daughter dead because she feared Meija was going to tell cops about the drug-dealing business she was engaged in with Connors.
Six months later, Nicholas Connors, Ted’s adoptive dad, was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds to the head on his sofa inside his home.
After the killings, Morgan allegedly pocketed a $200,000 life insurance policy and moved to Florida with her son, where they lived for the last quarter century.
As part of his plea deal, Carrero agreed to testify against the mother and son and is expected to receive a five- to 10-year prison sentence for each of the charges.
All three were arrested in January and remain held in the Monmouth County Jail.
