Roger Weckworth, 63, the operator of the QM7 bus that ran over a 58-year-old woman near the Staten Island Ferry Terminal about 5:50 p.m. was charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian.

The distraught driver was unaware he had hit the victim — who got caught underneath a rear wheel of the bus – until a pedestrian flagged him down six blocks north at Trinity Place and Exchange Alley.

Following the gruesome accident, Weckworth was an “emotional mess,” according to Transport Workers Union president John Samuelsen.

“This is a veteran bus operator with a good record,” added Samuelsen. “Our hearts go out to the victim.”

The woman’s name is being withheld pending family notification.
