Going up? No, you’re not.
Top MTA brass admit scores of broken elevators and escalators throughout the subway system are going nowhere fast.
“I don’t think we’re providing the service,” MTA chief Jay Walder said yesterday. “We have been trying a number of things on elevators and escalators, it’s not a budget issue, and they have not worked.”
A key issue, Walder said, is unreliable maintenance by private companies.
Two problem escalators cited were at the Lipstick Building (by E and M lines) and Grand Central (No. 7 line).
