Rush-hour 1-line subway riders who use any of the 12 stations from 145th Street in Washington Heights to 242nd Street in Van Cortlandt Park are in for longer waits and bigger crowds.
And MTA watchdogs say the switch clearly favors higher-income Manhattan riders at the expense of Bronxites.
The MTA said it was reducing the number of trains on the line from 18 to 13 between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. on weekdays to avoid end-of-line logjams and keep a train in reserve for emergencies.
“Riders north of 137th Street are getting hit,” conceded MTA board member Andrew Albert.
