The contractor that nearly skewered a crowded F train with a massive drill in Queens not only hit the wrong spot — but kept going after they hit the roof of a subway tunnel, officials said Monday.

“That’s where stupidity comes into play,” said Michael Horodiceanu, president of MTA Capital Construction, about the sub-contractor Griffin Dewatering. “The guys kept drilling. Stupidity, it’s always a problem.”

He said there were screw-ups not just from Griffin Dewatering, which was 12 feet off when it was drilling to extend an underground well, but the contractor Tutor Perini also didn’t follow the rules when marking where the drilling was supposed to happen.

The construction managers were not on top of the job, Horodniceanu added.

“We were so lucky,” he said about the drill’s near-miss of the subway.

MTA board member Charles Moerdler said they would look closely at contractors’ safety records.

“The board will now start looking at those statistics, and find some qualified and others not,” said Moerdler.
