MTA urged to smarten up
A leading MTA watchdog wants the agency to speed up the new “smart card” program, which would make the MetroCard go the way of the token, according to a new report.
The Permanent Citizens Advisory Committee said it was “concerned” about how slow a pilot project was moving.
“MTA must make a strong, sustained effort not only to expeditiously implement a ‘smart card,’ . . . but to push for a format that allows riders to move seamlessly” in other transit systems, the report read.
The MTA’s new chief, Jay Walder, has said finding a new way for straphangers to pay the fare is a “priority.”
