MTA’s all-out rat attack
The Metropolitan Transit Authority is boosting its efforts to rid the rails of rats, officials said yesterday.
In July, the agency will step up its anti-rat program by sealing off 347 rooms used to store bags of garbage, Doug Johnson, MTA’s budget director, told the City Council during a budget hearing.
“I’ve seen the rats dancing on the platforms!” Councilman Jimmy Vacca (D-Bronx), who chairs the Transportation Committee, told Johnson.
“Many people just take it as a common occurrence,” he said.
Johnson said the agency will fill cracks in walls and replace trash-room doors.
